On Christmas Day, 1932 the first government-operated motor bus departed Sydney's Cremorne Junction for the beachside suburb of Manly. This painting is based on the small, posed photograph taken by the Sydney Morning Herald that day and has featured prominently in the commemoration of the event by the State Transit Authority and the Sydney Bus Museum.

Ths painting featured as the cover illustration in the November/December 2007 edition of Australian Bus magazine.
