This painting shows Welsh narrow gauge locomotive "Prince of Wales" at Devil's Bridge on the Vale of Rheidol railway in June 1979. At the time this was the only narrow gauge railway under the control of the nationalised British Rail organisation. Unfortunately corporate identity rules dictated that these classic tank engines be painted in the then current "rail blue" livery, a colour scheme most unbecoming to such venerable old ladies!
