On Monday, 21st October 2013 a NSW Countrylink XPT became the first such train to make the journey to Broken Hill in the far west of the state. Bushfires prevented the normal service running through from Dubbo to Sydney that day so the opportunity was taken for a little trail-blazing. The train is pictured paused at Darnick platform near Ivanhoe.
My thanks to Steve Elsmore, one of the drivers that day, for provision of the photographs upon which the painting is based.
