Not my usual Sydney ferry painting, not even an ocean liner! A very special commission for a painting of the historic US Coast Guard Cutter "Storis" (WMEC-38) as a present for a former crew member. In service for almost sixty five years the "Storis" started life on World War II Greenland patrols and convoys and finished her days in fisheries protection and enforcement in the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea. This stunning and evocative painting of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter STORIS was a wonderful gift from my sister Trina Metz. I was pleased that Steve accurately captured many details often overlooked by maritime artists, however the real strength of the work is that his artistry conveys what I call the "soul" of STORIS. The painting will hang in a place of honor in our home. Below is a U-Tube link to a dramatic March 15, 1990 U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue involving the STORIS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA6xdSwFKy4 Derek H.
